Obituary

Richard Lewis Gaskins, 69, a Belfair resident since 1983, passed away December 27, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with Cancer.

Born and raised by his parents, Ernest Arnold Gaskins, and Dorothy (Ketland) Gaskins in San Diego, CA, Richard moved to Pocatello, Idaho as a young adult working for Bucyrus-Erie which is where he met his future wife Linda Tochterman. They then moved together to a variety of small Washington towns, finally landing in Belfair where after thirty years, Richard retired from an Engineering Technician position at PSNS in Bremerton.

Richard’s motto in life was “you should work hard which in turn creates an opportunity to play hard” and he meant it deeply and displayed it freely.  Richard’s love of his life was his family and in addition he enjoyed travel and all things with engines which played directly into his motto and enriched the lives of those he treasured;  NASCAR, boating, ORV’s, 4x4’s, motorcycles, and finally, the Rubicon which was built for rock crawling.  There was never an adventure Richard would turn down, he simply loved and lived life.

Richard is survived by his wife Linda Mae (Tochterman) Gaskins (Belfair), his daughter Lindsey Marie Gaskins (Silverdale), three grandsons Bryce Lewis Gaskins (Silverdale), Cody Skye Sigman (Silverdale), and Nicco Rayne Gaskins (Silverdale), his oldest brother Gerald Watson and wife Jackie (Irving, TX), a niece Leslie Watson (Butler, PA), and two great-nephews Mitchell May (Butler, PA) and Grant May (Butler, PA)

Due to the current WA state COVID restrictions, a private, intimate graveside burial will be held at Haven of Rest Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Gig Harbor, WA on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 2:00.  A celebration of his life is being planned for the summer.  Remembrances may be made to Red Rock 4 Wheelers, an organization that brought Richard and continues to bring “Jeepsters” much joy.
