Richard (Dick) Palmer Obituary

Richard "Dick" Palmer

August 7, 1932 - January 31, 2024

Richard was born in Viola, Idaho and adopted by Claude and Mary Palmer. Shortly after, the family moved to Grants Pass, Oregon.

Richard attended Whitman College in College Place, Washington where he met and married Eleanor LeFore of Freewater, Oregon. They were married on January 4th, 1953, and Richard immediately left to serve in the US Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and then to Tokyo during the Korean war.

After his return, the couple moved to Seattle where Richard worked at Boeing until he accepted an apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS).  The couple made Port Orchard their home in the early ‘60s.  Richard retired from PSNS in 1993.  He also had a machine shop for several decades where he did contract work for the US Navy and for friends and neighbors. Richard was an active member of the Port Orchard Masonic Lodge for over fifty years and spent his free time volunteering with several Masonic groups in the Kitsap County area.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents and his wife who passed in 2006. He is survived by his four children Patty (Greg) Mettler, Pam (Lynn) Manning, Richard (Chris) Palmer, and Meredith (David) Sterling.  He has nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Per Richard’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
