Ruth Cragun Obituary

Ruth Helen Cragun passed away quietly from this life in the late afternoon of Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 97.

Born to Archiebald (Archie) Arnold Wood and Lottie Helen Tolle Wood, Ruth began her life in Santa Barbara. She was an only child and graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma Washington.

Married Howard Blaine Cragun in Tacoma, Washington on October 24, 1944, while Howard was on leave from the Army Air Corps, and later married in the Idaho Falls Mormon Temple on June 5, 1951. They enjoyed 71 years of marriage prior to Howard passing December 9, 2015.

Howard and Ruth raised their three children in Tacoma and Gig Harbor Washington. Ruth worked for The Peninsula School District as a Teacher Aide and later worked in the front office of Dr. Richard Madison.  After retirement, they became snowbirds and traveled throughout the Western United States.  Howard and Ruth enjoyed playing guitars and singing together, music was a big part of their lives until their final days. She had never-ending love for her husband and her family.  Her thoughtful, kind heart touched many lives, and she made lifelong friends wherever she went.  Her family will forever be blessed by the example of love and devotion she instilled in her children, and children’s children.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband and her son Morey Arnold Cragun.  She has two living children, Curtis Cragun and Claudia Sarchett, three grandchildren, Rebecca Welliver, Matthew Smith and Brian Cragun, and four great grandchildren, Dawson Welliver, Quinn Welliver, Blaine Smith and Liam Smith.
