Shelley Guttormsen, 70, passed July 16, 2020, with her husband by her side in Gig Harbor, Washington, after a battle with cancer.
She was born May 27, 1950, in Tacoma to Patrick and Alice Doyle. Shelley graduated from Peninsula High School in 1968 where she was a Cheerleader and a Rainbow Girl. She was a proud Seahawk and would proudly sing the fight song, even 50 years later.
Shelley first met her husband, Jerry Guttormsen, when she was 9 and he was 13. Jerry made a face at her as he passed her while on a tractor and she stuck her tongue out in response. They made that connection official 11 years later when Shelley was 20, and eventually got married 5 years after that on November 8th, 1975. They were happily married for 44 years and had one son, Michael Guttormsen.
Shelley worked for Pacific Bell from 1968 until 1983. She then made the decision to work for her husband’s company, Guttormsen Brothers, until she was 62. She was an avid Solitaire player and every morning you would find her shuffling her cards. Her interests included family, gardening, cooking, canning, snow skiing, quad riding, dancing, boating, shopping, entertaining, and riding on the Harley. Shelley and Jerry loved to travel and spent a lot of time in Montana and Idaho. In later years, they divided their time between Gig Harbor, Packwood, Ocean Shores, Hawaii and Idaho. Shelley was best known for her contagious laugh, Irish pride, fried egg sandwiches and love for her family.
Mrs. Guttormsen is survived by her sister and her spouse, Cathy and Tad Scott; brother and his spouse, Patrick and Debbie Doyle; 1 son and his spouse, Michael and Melissa Guttormsen; and 4 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Terry Frederick.
