Theresa A. Berardo, 88

Theresa (Terry) passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023.  Terry was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Born to Andrew & Rose on January 9, 1935, in New York City.  She was raised in an Italian home in the Bronx attending Catholic school from Kindergarten through High School.  She worked as a bookkeeper after graduation and attended Fordham University part time, majoring in French, and studied Latin.  Terry was gifted in learning languages, becoming proficient in Spanish and French.  She also learned German and Japanese.

She met the love of her life Arthur (Art) on a blind date and married November, 1957.  Terry began a whirlwind of international travel as the wife of a USAF Officer.  Their first assignment was in Germany, where they took advantage of that location and traveled throughout Europe.  Upon returning from Germany, Terry, Art and family would continue to live and travel in Europe, Asia and throughout the United States for 20 years until Art’s retirement. 

After retiring from the military, Terry and Art returned to WA state, eventually settling in Gig Harbor.  They were active in their church community of their growing sleepy harbor town.  Terry and Art did not let grass grow under their feet as they became road warriors, crisscrossing the country visiting friends and relatives.

Sadly, Art passed in 1994, leaving Terry heartbroken.  Terry then split her time between Oklahoma and Washington to spend time with family and friends. She found comfort in her pastimes of cooking and reading.  She also gained solace from her love and involvement with her children and grandchildren.  While in Oklahoma, she became very active in her church becoming a Eucharistic minister for the homebound, sick and aging.  Like an angel, she would bring joy and comfort to all. 

Becoming ill in 2004, she returned to Everett, Washington residing in Arbor Place until 2008 then at Somerset until 2016.  She then moved to Gloria’s Good Faith Home in Lynwood, where she received excellent care until her passing.  Her daughters & their families lovingly and tirelessly cared for her throughout these difficult years.

Terry was preceded in death by her father Andrew, mother Rose, husband Art and brother Anthony.  She is survived by her children, Joseph (Linda), RoseAnne, Janine (Mark) and Elaine (Andy).  Grandchildren, Crystal, John. Mark, Jr., Ashley, James, Gregory, Thomas, Arianna, Austin, and great grandson, Koby and nieces and nephews.

Her funeral and internment will be held at Haven of Rest Funeral Home and Cemetery in Gig Harbor, WA on Thursday, August 24 at 2 pm.
