Obituary

Wallis Jean Olive, known to her friends and family as Walli, peacefully passed away on July 29, 2023, at the age of 79 in Allyn, WA. She was born on September 1, 1943, in Seattle, WA, to her late parents W. Wallace and Ella G. Welch.

Walli was a bright light in the lives of those around her, always sharing her smile and eagerly welcoming strangers. She had a warm and inviting personality, leaving a lasting impression on anyone she met.

Her dedication to her family was unwavering. She is survived by her loving husband, Duane, and their three sons: Kevin, David and his wife Susan, and Brian and his wife Christi. She was also a cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren: Brynn, Kevin, Brock, Lauren, Sara Beth, Parker, Tristan, and Delaney.  She is also survived by her three sisters Carolyn O'Ferry, Irene (Ree) Heide, and Vicki Ramming.

Education played an important role in Walli's life. She attended Steel Lake Elementary School and graduated from Federal Way High School in the Class of 1961. While she supported her family, Walli made sure that her husband, Duane, had the opportunity to pursue a college degree by providing motivation and constant support.

Walli found solace and community in her church home at North Bay Lutheran Community Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with strength and comfort.

She discovered a passion for golf later in life. She cherished the friendships she formed on the golf course, creating lasting memories with wonderful friends.

Walli and Duane's love for the water was the center of their life together and the family's boats were always a focus of her adult life.  She was always welcoming and making sure everyone enjoyed their time aboard.  This love of the water led them to embark on life aboard their family cruiser for 22 years.  Yearly cruises from Puget Sound to British Columbia and SE Alaska, created cherished memories together.

In her professional life, Walli was most proud to be a trailblazer. She introduced the concept of pay air and water vending dispensers at gas stations and convenience stores in Western Washington. She successfully led the growth of her business to nearly 700 locations before retiring.

A memorial service honoring Walli's life will be held on Saturday, September 9th, at 2:00 PM at North Bay Lutheran Community Church in Allyn, WA. Following the service, a reception will be held at the church. Contributions in Walli's memory can be made to Pancreatic Cancer Research in hopes of finding a treatment for those that come after her.

Walli will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.  Her kind nature, warm smile and zest for life will forever be remembered.
