David A Roberts

David A. Roberts was born July 21, 1948 to John and Edna Roberts in Sunnyside, WA.  He was the middle child with an older brother and younger sister.  He was part of the Boy Scouts growing up and played football in High School.  He was drafted into the Army in 1968.  He chose to enlist with the Navy.  He was part of the Mobile Riverine Force serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 where he earned two Purple Hearts.  He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1970. 

He earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Education at Bemidji State University.  He then moved to Grand Forks, ND where he worked at the University of North Dakota in the Veterans Benefits Office helping other veterans use their Educational Benefits.  That is where he met his wife Virginia who was also a Veteran.  He married and moved out to Gig Harbor, WA in 1980 where he worked as the Director of Education for the Navy Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA until his retirement.  David lost his wife, Virginia of 29 years in April 2013. 

David passed away at Baystate Medical in Springfield, MA on Friday October 9th, 2015.  He is survived by his daughter, Jackie Kimball and his son-in-law Dave Whalley of Southwick, MA.  Viewing and Visitation hours will be Friday October 16th from 10 AM to 12 PM at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor, WA.  There will be a graveside service at noon following the Visitation hours.  A guest book is available for signing with memories and condolences at www.havenrest.com.
