George E. Cannon was born in Greenfield, Ohio on February 3, 1924 and died November 12th at the age of 92.  A veteran of the Army and customs inspector, he was independent most of his life.  He enjoyed gardening at his Gig Harbor home, helping his children with projects and making wine.  His familiar whistling will be remembered fondly by Ingeborg (Wagner), his wife of nearly 65 years; his children, Jeanette (Bob), John (Cheryl), Mickey (Steve) and George W (Christy); his 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Though a man of few words, his children will remember their dad for the strong value he placed on loyalty.  This extended beyond his commitment to his family to include organizations.  As children we saw this in 1967.  With his Army retirement papers ready to go, he reenlisted to join his unit when they deployed to Vietnam.  When asked why, his simple answer was that the Army had been good to him and he was now repaying an obligation.  His sense of loyalty meant that he believed he owed it to his unit to deploy with them.  This worked in reverse, though.  In the late 1960’s his auto insurance company cancelled his policy for his children’s car accidents, following many years of no claims.  He refused to have anything to do with the company.  The year before his death he would still change the channel if their commercial came on the TV and explain how disloyal they were.

His family looks forward fondly to seeing Dad in heaven.

Memorial services for the family were held on Saturday, November 19th
