Phyllis Arlene Ude
Phyllis Ude passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11. She was a lovely woman who touched many lives in an incredible way.
Phyllis and her late husband, Arthur, moved to Gig Harbor in 1989, after retiring as an elementary school teacher in San Jose, CA., where she taught for over 30 years. Phyllis was born to George and Emma Theiss in Los Angeles on September 11, 1928. As the daughter of a Lutheran minister, she initially attended college at Valparaiso University in Indiana and ultimately graduated from the University of Southern California. She met Arthur Ude at First Lutheran Church in Pasadena, CA, and they were married in 1949. They raised their two sons, Steve and Ken, in California. After moving to Gig Harbor, Phyllis was an active member of Peninsula Lutheran Church and volunteered at Tacoma General Hospital.
The Ude family especially wants to thank Dr. Mark Craddock and his staff for their years of extraordinary care and involvement in the lives of both Phyllis and Art. They also want to thank Kelly & Mark Watson and the incredible staff at Kensington Gardens Estate Senior Living for making Phyllis’ last year the best that it could be.
Phyllis is survived by Steve & Jonell Ude and Ken & Cathy Ude, her two sons and their wives; her 5 grandchildren, Carolyn & Matthew Guimbarda, Laura Ude-Walker& Patrick, Kristen Ude, Tyler & Rachel Ude and Allison & Spencer McCroskey; and more importantly, her 7 Great Grandchildren, Bradley, Matthew & Emily McCroskey, Anika & Hunter Walker and Morgan & Cayden Guimbarda.
A memorial service will be held at Peninsula Lutheran Church, 6509 38th Ave NW, Gig Harbor, at 2:00pm on June 25, 2016. She will be interred at Haven of Rest. Please sign her guestbook or light a candle at www.havenrest.com with memories and condolences for the family.
