Charlotte Jean Abel

Charlotte “Jean” Shelton Abel 1931 to 2018 died January 5, 2018 at the age of 86. For the last several years of her life she was a resident of Manor Care in Gig Harbor WA. For the majority of her life was known to family and friends as Jean.

Jean was a 1949 graduate of Franklin High School in Seattle WA. After graduation she attended the University of Washington majoring in Commercial Art. Her work experience included: Kenworth Motor Truck Company, Employee Benefits Plans Inc., Boeing, Weyerhaeuser, Independent R&D Sales and Service, and Graphic Design Consultant. In most of these jobs she used her commercial art training.

She married Earl Abel on June 29, 1956. They make their home in Skyway. Both Jean and Earl were very involved with the Skyway VFW. Jean had the honor of being the Washington State VFW volunteer of the year which included a trip to Washington DC to be honored. She volunteered her time and talent to the Skyway Parade Day celebration designing all of the advertising for the event each year. She also volunteered to help the Huntington Foundation.

Jean loved animals there was never a time when she didn’t have at least one cat or dog in her home. Usually there was more than one. She was a wonderful cook and a fantastic seamstress.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Earl, and son Wayne. She leaves behind one sister, many nephews and nieces, grand nephews and nieces, one great grand-nephew and four great grand-nieces.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service at Tahoma National Cemetery on February 2, 2018 at 11:15.
