Welcome to the memorial page for

Evan Lee Harris

February 19, 1945 ~ August 27, 2016 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Evan was born in Oakland, CA to Thelma and Nels Nelson on February 19, 1945. She is survived by her husband, Richard, sister, Jan, son, Brandon, daughter, Regan, daughter-in-law, Amy, and grandson, Ryuko.

Evan was a gifted and very talented, artistic individual, who loved creating, works of art using fabrics and other media.

From the moment Evan showed up in my office looking for a job, I knew she was a very special lady. I hired her on the spot after she indicated that she was going down the street for another interview. I discovered that Evan had a baby girl, Regan, who was not yet two years old. The first time I asked Evan out on a date, she immediately turned me down, but that didn't stop me from trying again. Evan called the office one day and said that her baby was sick and she would not be able to come into work. I went out on my lunch break and picked up some groceries for her, which she appreciated. I picked up a swimming pool for Regan's 2nd birthday and that won Evan over. We went out for the first time and enjoyed a wonderful dinner and conversation at Hiram's on the Locks.

Our relationship grew stronger over the months and I decided this was the woman I wanted to marry, which I did in May 1981. Evan decided she wanted another baby and our son was born a year later. Evan and I raised two beautiful and creative children together. Regan is a certified Pilate’s instructor living in New York with Amy and Ryuko. Brandon is a Major in the Air Force medical group currently stationed in Japan.

Evan was part of a quilting group for over 25 years displaying her beautiful creative spirit.

She will be missed by all who came in contact with her.

Our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.
