I was newly married and newly a resident of Washington state in September 1975 when I walked into the North Mason School District office in Belfair to request a substitute teacher application. Carol Madsen was the friendly secretary behind the counter. She pointed out a full-time teaching opening at the middle school which I was surprised to see since school had already started. I got the job, and the following year Carol became the middle school secretary, which in my opinion requires the largest heart and brain in a school because she is attending to everyone-- the principal, the district administrators, the teachers, other staff, the students, the parents, and the general community. And Carol did it all with grace, wisdom and gentle humor.

Ten years later, I’m going through a divorce, and a scary part of that is no one is at home in Bremerton to sound the alarm if I don’t show up. My ’74 Camaro was maybe the worst car in the world to drive on icy roads, so Carol insisted I call her when I got home to make sure I was safe. She made one of the most difficult times of my life easier. For that and so many other reasons, Carol holds a special place in my heart, and I will never forget her. My condolences to the Madsen family and the many other people who will grieve her passing.

I have known Carol since senior high school in Oakland Calif. She graduated high school a year ahead of me. I was a new S A soldier when Dal & Carol got married, I played cornet in the Oakland Citadel YP Band along with Carol who was playing baritone. I became a senior soldier on Easter Sunday 1949. Dal & Carol were my CO's in Bellingham Wa. After Dal & Carol went on sick furlough and lived in Bellfair WA. and I had become Bandmaster in Salem OR, I would buy SA Band records and make tapes and send them to Dal & Carol, Dal & Carol loved to listen to the tapes I made for them. Pauline & I have had a long time relationship with Dal & Carol. Pauline went home to be with The Lord 9/14/12. Now Dal, Carol & Pauline can have a good chin waging time together.

Carol was full of grace and the most disciplined individual I have ever known. She was loving, kind, Godly, caring, and so much more. She gave herself every morning to time with God and time to take care of her body. I admired her commitment and loyalty to her beliefs. She had a great impact on me. She never complained about her physical condition - just kept up the big fight - knowing that she would see her God in the end. I loved her.

Carol was one of the 1st people I met when I moved to North Mason and she welcomed me with kindness, grace and love! I realize now that Carol loved ALL those she knew and cared for from the very first moment, that was who she was and is! My thoughts and prayers are with all Carol's family and friends. Thank you for sharing Carol :) Please be gentle with yourselves in the days and weeks ahead.

Carol always enjoyed her first cup of coffee each morning sitting on her deck overlooking Hood Canal. She told us how this was such a special time of day when she had her devotions and prayed. I cherished her prayers for my family. Now she is part of the heavenly host cheering us on.

I love this woman! She was a rock. As the secretary of the school when I was in Jr. High, Carol saw me and loved me well. She made that school a safe place and brought a warmth through her presence that I will always remember. She has inspired me to love my students well. We will laugh again Ms. Carol.

I rejoice with you knowing that Carol (Momo) is dancing on the streets of gold with her beloved. I cry with you as we miss her here on earth...never to hear her voice again on earth nor her laughter. But in our memories she will always be there, encouraging and making others happy. I am so thankful for her Godly example of how to live every day to the fullest.

"...and loving Him, you must become like Him. The Love of God melts down the unlovely heart in man, and begets in him the new creature, who is patient, and humble and gentle and unselfish..". Henry Drummond
Carol truly was all that and more because of her great love for Jesus...we know you all will miss her so...our hearts and thoughts are with you all, our prayers are for peace.

Carol was one of my favorite hair clients when she lived in Belfair. She gave me a lot of positive advise while I was rasing my two kids on my own. She helped me get my son in the Salvation Army camp one summer when I was at my limit of patience with him as a teenager, he was a different kid when I picked him up after a week . She was always helping anybody that needed anything what a wonderful person she was!!!

I will always remember her as Major Madsen. She had such a grace about her. Always encouraging words. And her kids are pretty great too. Thank you Major for your great example of what a Christian woman is all about. Prayers for the family. See you again in heaven.

Carol was a peer of mine, whom I have known since 1948 when I was a cadet in training college in San Francisco. Our paths crossed again when the Madsens were in Seattle and Al & I lived there as well. Our children grew up together & have remained good friends. We were true spiritual sisters - daughters of the King - we both knew the effects of cancer. She was my friend and I will miss her voice and fun loving friendship. I saw her recently and we tearfully prayed together holding hands knowing we would see each other soon in that beautiful Paradise prepared for us. As Carol would say, "Shalom".

I first remember the Madsen's as a young child in Aberdeen, Washington. They were the DYS' for the Northwest Division. They were so kind and loving and as a young child that made a deep impression on me. Always with a smile and a warm heart. Mrs. Madsen's concern for the young people was evident in how she talked to us and how she ministered to us. Carol awarded me my Commissioner's Sunbeam badge of which I was very proud! The Madsen family, from Colonel Madsen on down were important people in the Brodin family. It was this family that brought our father to the Lord. I will always be grateful for the input they had in our lives. When my Mom went to be with the Lord, Carol wrote such a wonderful note to me. It brought me some peace and helped me to deal with the loss of my Mom. Nothing can ever take the place of our Mother's, but the heritage they hand down to us is one we can go to eternity with!

So many memories! Barb's memories of Carol go all the way back to age 5. Both Carol and Dal were wonderful pastors and although they were young officers in Roseburg, their spiritual maturity allowed them to see our family through a horrific car accident that took the life of Barb's grandparents. Carol has been an encouragement ever since, often sending cards or notes. What a jewel. Heaven is much richer now!

We retired in the year 2000. We went to Training College in 1956. We
just thought we'd share with you that before we ever went to Training
College we took a job of assisting your folks in Klamath Falls. Their
genuine Christian faith and sweet and loving spirit was already quite
apparent there. We could have no better teaching on how to be good
officers. Your Mom has been a blessed example and good friend through
the years. We know you'll miss her . Still, we rejoice with you that she
is with the Lord and others that she has loved. I'm sure that many more
could give this testimony to her wonderful exemplary influence. With
these blessed memories in our hearts, we send our love to you, her
beloved children!

Carol is one of my favorite saints. She lived and loved with an otherworldly quality that was so attractive. She knew Jesus and desired to make him known to OTHERS.
