I met Charl when I was a teenager and we became members of Peninsula Lutheran church. She was such a wonderful, caring person and made me feel quite special. As I'm sure she made everybody feel special. She was a wonderful role model in the way she lived her life and cared for others.

Just last night I was telling one of my daughters how my high school counselor helped me when I was a senior and had dropped out. That meeting with Mrs. Blackwell was one of the key moments in my education and I'll always be grateful to her for the solutions she gave me.

I want the family to know that Mrs. Blackwood was my gym and health class teacher when I attended Peninsula High School from 1962 to 1965. She was a very caring person and was a very positive influence in my life.
She did exercises with us in gym class when she really didn't have to. That impressed me!

What can I say? Mrs. Blackwood (she kept saying I should call her Charl, but she was always Mrs. Blackwood to me!) was the most caring and compassionate person, which showed every day in her work at Peninsula High School, which is where I knew her as a P.E. teacher and counselor. She wrote job references for me I think even when I was in my 30's. She told me she could write them in her sleep! One of the most valuable lessons in my life I learned from her: that it is OK to admit you don't know something! (And of course, then go learn it!) A group of us classmates from Pen Hi Class of '65 were fortunate to have lunch with her earlier this year and were impressed that she was still helping other senior citizens, much younger than herself, even when she had to hire a driver to take her to see them! Sincere condolences to the family. I can only imagine how much you will miss her. My husband, Ron Schillinger (who was blessed to have Mrs. Blackwood as his first grade teacher!), know the world will be a little less bright without Charl, but oh, will Heaven ever be brighter. Sincerely, Janet and Ron

I recently got the opportunity to tell Charl how much I appreciated her kindness to me when I was first employed as a counseling intern at PHS in 1975. She took me on a home visit with her and extended such warmth and positive insights to the families she worked with--and to me as well. Her many years working with PHS students was a model to me and to so many others. My thoughts are with her family and friends as we all mourn her loss.

Charl and her husband, Stan, were an important part of my development in HS, as members of our church, as parents to my classmates, Ray, Karen, and Lynn and as role models. Through the years I came to realize how much influence they had on me and will always remember them for that. Mrs. Blackwood was one of the kindest, most interesting individuals I have ever met. My condolences to Ray and Lynn.

I remember that beautiful face so well from my school years. When she smiled at you, you felt as though you had known her your entire life. Such a beautiful person. Sending deepest condolences to the family.

My deepest condolences to Charl's family. I know there is little that one can say or do to take away all your pain, but please know you are in the thoughts and prayers of many. I pray and hope that you find comfort in your cherished memories and the promise that soon all suffering will end and our loved ones will awaken from their restful sleep. Revelation 21:3,4; Job 14:14, 15. With deepest sympathy.
