Joan sat at my husband, Charlie's table in the dining room of Stafford Healthcare for all the years Charlie lived there until his passing last year, about 6 years. Charlie assumed a protective role toward Joan. He enjoyed her wit and sense of humor. A shy and quiet woman by nature, he understood how she felt. He tried to make things a little more livable at meal times. I'm sure Joan understood the message that Charlie was trying to deliver.
