Marilla Jean (Virden) Thompson

June 16, 1941 ~ January 26, 2016 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Marilla Jean Thompson, beloved wife, sister, aunt and devoted friend went to her heavenly home on January 26, 2016, following an acute illness.  Jean, as she was known to most of us, was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Raymond Arvel Virden Sr. and Virginia Edith (Wine) Virden on June 16, 1941.  Jean came from a large family and spent much of her time helping to provide care and upkeep of the house for her many brothers and sisters.

She graduated from High School in East Liverpool and met and married the Love of her life, Lester Bradley Thompson on September 30, 1960.  They were married for 43 years.  Jean and Lester moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1964 and Jean worked as Assistant Manager/Manager of various retail and furniture stores, such as Block Furniture and Burlington Coat Factory.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brothers Raymond A. Virden Jr., Curtis L. Virden, James E. Virden, and sisters, Ethel LaNeve, Dorothy Dolly McKinley, Julia Taubert, Edith Flannigan, and Betty F. Virden.

She is survived by sisters, Virginia J. Cochran, Myrle M. Martin, Carol Sue Williams, and brothers, George R. Virden, Gary W. Virden, and David A. Virden.

Jean enjoyed listening to music, knitting, and reading and studying God’s Word.  She especially enjoyed serving others and sharing her faith.  She was an encourager, a giver, a good friend and mentor to many people.
