Richard F. Poppe, 89, died Wednesday, November 19, peacefully in his sleep. Born in Butte, Montana, November 5, 1926, Richard joined the Navy at age 17. He carried his violin with him throughout his service career, which included working on the USS Aegir. After an extensive career at Boeing, Dick retired in 1988.
His lifelong passion for music was known to all who loved him. He was a member of the Federal Way Symphony, the Rainier Symphony, and most recently, the Gig Harbor Peninsula Civic Orchestra. He was an adventurous man, who traveled the world extensively, enjoying snow skiing, and sailing on his boat, the Avatar, for over 40 years.
He was father to 3 lovely daughters: Sylvia, Christina, and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy, and her 3 children: Jeannine, Bernice, and Brian. Together, Dick and Nancy enjoyed their 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons immensely.
A memorial service for Richard will be held at the Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor on Thursday, December 10 at 11:30, reception to immediately follow.
